Joshua Ends the Show: Jake Paul Stopped Cold on Netflix

Anthony Joshua's sixth-round knockout of Jake Paul may not have been historic, but the fight cost Paul dearly. Joshua broke Paul's jaw in the Netflix main event, leaving him with serious injuries.

Many boxing analysts believed that it would be nothing short of a miracle if Jake Paul survived more than two rounds against two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. But on Friday, Paul exceeded expectations, holding Joshua at bay until the sixth round. However, Joshua scored four knockdowns before finishing Paul.

In a post-fight interview, Jake Paul claimed to have a broken jaw. He shared a close-up video on social media, showing his teeth dislocated inside his bloodied mouth.

Paul subsequently posted a photo from his hospital bed, revealing that some of his teeth had to be removed and two titanium plates had been inserted into his jaw. According to doctors, Paul will not be able to eat solid food for the next week.

Paul wrote, "Just out of surgery. Everything went well. Thank you all for your love and support. There's a lot of pain and stiffness. I'll be on a liquid-only diet for the next seven days."

X-ray reports also revealed that Paul's jaw was fractured in two places.

The fight being stretched into the sixth round appeared to do more harm than good to Anthony Joshua's reputation. Before the fight, Joshua told CBS Sports that anything less than a first-round knockout would be a "failure" for him. He struggled to land clean punches on Paul in the early rounds, especially when Paul began playing defensively from the fourth round onwards.

However, Jake Paul lasted four rounds longer than former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in this bout and also avoided being knocked unconscious. But spending most of his time maintaining distance, clinching, and trying to stop the fight with his knees doesn't inspire much confidence in his world title dreams.

Following Friday's win, Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) demanded a long-awaited super fight against Tyson Fury. Jake Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) suffered the second professional defeat of his career, but he still dreams of becoming cruiserweight world champion.
