When asked about the controversial selection, Johnson told a reporter, "I didn't even know who Bad Bunny was, but it seems like a very bad decision to me."
Johnson suggested that Lee Greenwood, known for his famous patriotic song "God Bless the USA," which is often played at former President Donald Trump's rallies, would have been a better choice for the Super Bowl.
When asked why he considered the selection a mistake, he said, "It seems like he (Bad Bunny) wouldn't be able to attract a wide audience."
He further added, "The Super Bowl is watched by millions of people – many of them young and impressionable children – and in my opinion, Lee Greenwood or someone like him would have been more appropriate for this opportunity. But no one was chosen."
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, is one of the most popular and successful music artists in the world today. Along with Taylor Swift and country music star Morgan Wallen, he is among the most streamed artists in the world.
His music is particularly popular in Spanish-speaking countries and among the Spanish community in the United States.
However, his selection as the headliner of the Super Bowl has sparked sharp criticism among American conservatives and Trump supporters. They believe the NFL is trying to send a political message against Trump and MAGA Republicans with this decision.
Bad Bunny has previously criticized former President Trump and even stated that he will not tour in the mainland United States because he fears his fans could be targeted by federal immigration agencies.
The Trump administration has previously threatened to send Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to California during the Super Bowl. Several prominent MAGA figures have also expressed displeasure with Bad Bunny's political views.
