LeBron’s “Big Decision” Turns Out to Be an Ad
LeBron James grabbed everyone's attention with a major announcement on Tuesday—but it ultimately turned out to be just a Hennessy ad.

James posted on X (formerly Twitter) calling it "the greatest decision of all." The accompanying video showed the Los Angeles Lakers star sitting in a chair on the court, just as he sat in front of reporter Jim Gray in 2010. He further clarified the connection by adding the hashtag #TheSecondDecision to the post.
However, the announcement wasn't basketball-related. In fact, James parodied "The Decision" in a new Hennessy ad. He himself admitted that Monday's mysterious post was a joke.
Monday's post piqued fans' curiosity, and many believed James was about to make a major decision about his career. Since he's turning 41 in December, speculation about retirement was rife. However, nothing materialized.
Even during training camp, James didn't make any major revelations on the subject. When asked about retirement in September, he made it clear that he was excited to play another season. He also acknowledged that his career would end "very soon," but didn't give a specific timeframe.
Fan expectations were so high that after Monday's post, ticket prices for the Lakers' final home game suddenly spiked on StubHub—with the cheapest ticket reaching $746. However, by Tuesday morning, prices had dropped again.
Despite his advancing age, James continues to perform brilliantly. Last season, he averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds for the Lakers, leading the team to the playoffs, where they lost in the first round to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
In the current social media frenzy, speculation was rife that this was related to an advertisement or a new partnership. This was especially true because Amazon's Prime Day, which James has previously promoted, also began on Tuesday. This time, however, it turned out to be an advertisement, unrelated to Amazon.
While some fans may have been disappointed, the original "The Decision" was no less controversial.
