According to reports from the Daily Mail and The Hollywood Reporter, the 29-year-old actor sustained a concussion on Friday after a stunt went wrong at Leavesden Studios in Watford, England. Sources indicate Holland “cracked his head” during the incident, though no other cast or crew members were injured.
Holland was immediately taken to the hospital, where he received treatment for what doctors confirmed was a mild concussion. While the injury is not considered life-threatening, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have opted to pause filming as a precaution. Production insiders say Holland will take “several days off” to recover fully.
Sony executives are expected to meet Monday to determine how the incident might affect the film’s shooting schedule. Representatives for both Holland and Sony Pictures have yet to issue an official comment.
Despite the injury, Holland appeared in public just one day later alongside his fiancée and Spider-Man co-star Zendaya. The couple attended an event at Christie’s auction house in London, where Holland hosted a charity pub quiz benefiting The Brothers Trust, the philanthropic foundation he runs with his brothers. Guests, including Laura Hope Whitaker of Java Joy, shared photos of the pair smiling and in good spirits, suggesting the actor is already on the mend.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day began filming on August 1 in Glasgow, Scotland, before moving to Leavesden Studios. The film marks Holland’s fourth standalone adventure as Peter Parker and follows the massive box-office success of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), the new film is set between the events of No Way Home and Marvel’s upcoming crossover epic, Avengers: Doomsday. Holland previously teased his updated Spidey costume on Instagram and confirmed the movie’s release date with a simple caption: “Are you ready? 7.31.2026.”
The highly anticipated sequel will see Zendaya return as MJ, while Jacob Batalon reprises his role as Peter’s best friend, Ned Leeds. Several high-profile Marvel stars are also confirmed to appear, including Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, and Michael Mando as the villain Scorpion.
In addition to familiar faces, the film will introduce new talent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and The Bear actress Liza Colón-Zayas have officially joined the ensemble, though their roles remain under wraps.
While Holland’s injury has temporarily disrupted production, fans remain optimistic about the project’s progress. The actor, who has performed many of his own stunts throughout his career, is widely praised for his physical commitment to the Spider-Man role.
For now, the focus is on Holland’s recovery and ensuring production resumes safely. With Marvel and Sony working closely to manage the setback, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still slated to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.
