Toss and Team Strategies

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to field first, a decision influenced by the pitch conditions and the team's confidence in chasing targets.  RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, entered the final with a formidable lineup, including stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Phil Salt, aiming to claim their maiden IPL title after years of near misses. 


RCB's Innings: A Solid Start Undermined by Middle-Order Collapse


Batting first, RCB posted a competitive total of 178 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.  The innings was anchored by Virat Kohli, who scored a fluent 68 runs off 45 balls, providing a solid foundation.  Phil Salt contributed with a brisk 35, while Rajat Patidar added 30 runs.  However, the middle-order failed to capitalize on the strong start, with PBKS bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal taking crucial wickets to stem the run flow. 


PBKS's Chase: Shreyas Iyer Leads from the Front


Chasing 179 for victory, PBKS faced early setbacks, losing two quick wickets.  Captain Shreyas Iyer then took charge, crafting a masterful innings of 89 not out, steering the team towards the target with composure and skill.  Supported by Marcus Stoinis, who contributed a valuable 40 runs, Iyer ensured that PBKS reached the target with three balls to spare, sealing a memorable victory.
